09.25.16 – Port Church, Your Church. Why?

PORT Church is YOUR Church! But why?
Simply put, it is because God loves you, and we endeavour to share that message every week with our local community here in Port Dalhousie.
Acts 2:42-27
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.  Everyone was filled with awe at the manywonders and signs performed by the apostles.  All the believers were together and had everything in common.  They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.  Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.  They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people.  And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
The way that we do church is modelled upon the early church, as seen in these timeless verses.  We are endeavoring to do church in such an “old” way that it almost seems new again.  The first church did only four things – though they did them extremely well.  They were devoted to the apostles teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.  If you consider a professional athlete, they learn to do one specific thing better than anyone else.  It is not that they are mediocre at everything, or even fantastic at everything, but rather that they are able do one particular thing with excellence.  The early church were fully committed, whole heartedly, to these four simple things that became a fundamental part of early church life.
At PORT Church we care for people, not because we have it all together, are just kind hearted or have endless patience;  rather, it is because we can have no other response to God’s love for us.  We care for the people that God brings into our church building, into our everyday lives, into our community because we have experienced God’s care for us.  Therefore, we will continually pray for our local community.  We will continually meet together weekly and will continue to celebrate getting to know our neighbours in this area.
