07.24.16 – Randy Srochenski – Your Kingdom Come

“This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

(Matthew 6: 9-10)

“YOUR KINGDOM COME”

God’s kingdom is in heaven.  Jesus teaches us to pray that Gods kingdom in heaven comes into our life, into our world, rather than praying for us to go to his kingdom.

Disney provides us with a great example of a kingdom.  It is known as the ‘magic kingdom’ because when you go there you are transported into the physical world of Disney – everything that you have seen on television and in their films comes to life.  You physically interact with Aladdin and Mickey Mouse, and climb the stairs of Cinderella Castle.  The only thing with Disney is that YOU have to go to it.  The kingdom of Disney doesn’t come to you.

The Kingdom of this world is to go get it, go take it, go to it.  This is how you become something in this world.  However, Jesus teaches us to be counter cultural through praying to God that his kingdom COME.  In heaven everything is perfect, though there is authority and rules there (just as there are at Disney and in any other kingdom).

Romans 14:17-19

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,

because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval.

Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.

Therefore, we can see the kingdom of God in our life through righteousness, peace and joy.   Through these things we can let Gods kingdom define our life.
