Love is empty unless it is demonstrated. God has demonstrated his love through the service and sacrifice of Jesus, his only Son. In the Lord’s prayer Jesus gives us as a great reminder of the gospel, that can form our everyday lives when we truly understand these timeless words.
Matthew 6:9
Our Father, who is in heaven.
Hallowed be your name.
It is hard to say exactly what heaven will be like. However, we know that there will be no pain, heartache, sorrow or mourning.
As we read 2 Corinthians 5 we see that heaven is full of the Gospel. It is described as a place where we receive something that we didn’t earn and don’t deserve.
Holy means to be set apart.
Religion teaches us that we can achieve holiness ourselves. All that is required is just to try harder, work harder, think better. However, this leaves us bound – it is impossible in our human strength to achieve holiness. The answer is to encounter the holiness of God.
Jesus had no sin of his own – so he took our sin upon himself. We receive the finished work of the cross not because we are holy but because of Jesus. In Christ we are without blemish and free from accusation. It is this good news of the Gospel is what we are reminded of in the Lord’s prayer.
