02.12.17 – I Am Jonah – In The Belly Of The Fish

Jonah keeps trying to run further and further from God but the more he runs the deeper and darker it gets for him until he is ultimately in the belly of a fish.  Now he can no longer run – he is completely in God’s hand, and in a place where he can finally come face to face with himself.  It is right here where he can come to repentance.
Repentance is to change your thinking back to God’s way of thinking.  It is to tell it exactly like it is, without justifying or defending yourself.  It is to lay everything completely before God, revealing 100%.

“When my life was ebbing away,
    I remembered you, Lord,
and my prayer rose to you,
    to your holy temple.

“Those who cling to worthless idols
turn away from God’s love for them.
But I, with shouts of grateful praise,
    will sacrifice to you.
What I have vowed I will make good.
I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the Lord.’”

(Jonah 2:7-9)

Idols promise the ultimate significance, security and satisfaction, but they never deliver.  They promise to FILL YOU but leave you empty, dissatisfied and craving more.  God is not against you having things but he is against things having you.  “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and ALL these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)  Repentance is to turn away from anything that has taken God’s place in our heart and life.
I think everyone should get rich and famous and do everything they’ve ever dreamed of so they can see that it’s not the answer.
